Crazy Ideas, Take Three!

Is the third time the charm? No, unless by "charm" you mean "even more tragic than the first and second times"...
National Novel Writing Month is here once again, and the temptation to give it another go is strong. I've done it the previous two years and managed to succeed ("success" having nothing to do with "quality"), and hey, going for 3/3 is a pretty respectable goal.
Of course, life throws in a kink, just for fun. I lose ten days this November by being out of the country on business. Work trips are notoriously time-consuming and, while always interesting, are not necessarily beneficial to writing and stuff.
So... can I step up production and write 50000 words in 20 days instead of 301? Is there enough Mountain Dew and chocolate in the world to sustain my pace?2 And, most importantly, do you really care?3
Anyway, the point of this jibba-jabba is to say that, as I did before, I will post my progress in my LJ, on a separate filter (because every year a few brave souls try and have their eyeballs melted into bloody goo). If you're interested in reading really bad writing (which is the joy/horror of NaNoWriMo), feel free to let me know in a comment below, and I'll add you to the filter. If you were on the filter last year, you're still there, so now would be a good time to pipe up and say "OH GOD PLEASE NOT AGAIN MY EYES!!!!"4
And finally, because I can't leave these posts loaded up with seriousness and topicality, I reflect the feelings of those who have read my wonders before you:

1 Theoretically yes. Realistically... maybe.
2 Whoever sends me chocolate will get a chapter dedicated to them. I'll even try to make it a good chapter.
3 No, of course not. You're just here for the manatee picture.
4 The parabolic death rate of readers is unmistakable.
5 PROFIT!

Date: 2008-10-23 04:43 pm (UTC)I'm in! And I might even start my graphic novel. Does that count?
Date: 2008-10-23 08:27 pm (UTC)Preferences? We have access to such a wondrous variety in the NW.
Organic chocolate. Pepper chocolate. Bacon chocolate. Though note, I never have sampled the latter. Just heard about a shop that might have it.

Date: 2008-10-23 08:51 pm (UTC)Although I did have Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies recently, and they turned out better than one would have expected. Truth!
Oooh, graphic novel! That's much more impressive than paltry writing! You should go for it!

Date: 2008-10-23 09:22 pm (UTC)(The reason I don't do NaNoWriMo? I've written around 30 fanfics in the last 10 years, one third of which is 50,000+ words, one tenth is about twice that length, and my current WIP is approaching the 200,000-word mark. I don't have to prove I can do it, I KNOW I can. What I don't need is having my tail on fire while I'm at it. :-))
