On Friday I went to Madison Square Garden.

Those who know me well might be surprised at that. After all, the Garden is primarily a sporting arena, and my affinity with sports is tenuous at best. I'm lucky I can remember that the Cleveland Browns play hockey, much less anything more complicated. So, in summary, sporting arenas and I are not commonly seen together in public. If at all.

Ah, but this was different. The ever-radiant [profile] ghostwriterxx wanted to go see her sensei fighting in the Golden Gloves finals, and had invited me to come and watch with her. Now, true, I'm not a sports fan, but I have to admit, I love watching a good beatdown, and boxing matches can occasionally provide that in spades. Plus, she's good company. How could I refuse?

We meet up in Penn Station, grab some food, and then go to the Garden. Having never been in MSG before, we were not entirely certain where the correct entrance was, and being that the arena takes up an entire city block, our search took a bit of time. The entrance is cleverly hidden in an office building right in front of the big round arena-like building. (By "cleverly hidden" I mean "huge electic lightboard display that says MADISON SQUARE GARDEN on it", but come on, who's going to believe that?) Tricksy, they are. But in we go, and then down to the theater, which is I believe just above the Earth's mantle, it's that far down.

The matches were fun. I don't have any scanning ability, or I'd show you pictures of some of the more colorful participants, like Head. I forget his real name; it's not important. Judging by his picture, I'd say his head was about four or five sizes too large for his body. I'm surprised the poor boy didn't get knocked out, his noggin was so huge. It was like Sputnik. But more power to him, he won his fight. We cheered for Head.

After all the matches, we went to the Times Square Brewery for the post-fight celebration hosted by TSK. (Yes, [profile] perkyczarlet, this is the place where you ordered the chef's salad, extra housefly.) I figured I might get my ass kicked, being some non-TSK practitioner, so I artfully disguised myself with a gin and tonic to blend in. After some more drinks and music and some ogling of women on my part and men on [profile] ghostwriterxx's part, we had to go catch the last train out of Penn. We finally got home around 3 am. So... sleepy... but lots of fun.
